Rutherford

Dreamy landscapes and small town charm.

Welcome to Rutherford

Rutherford was founded on the nearly 12,000-acre Mexican land grant, Rancho Caymus, which was deeded to early settler George C. Yount from General Mariano Vallejo in 1838. Yount gave a small portion of the grant as a wedding present to his grand-daughter, Elizabeth, when she married Thomas Rutherford in 1864, and the family name stuck. A small town with under 200 residents calling it home, this quaint community is tucked between neighboring Oakville and St. Helena along famous Highway 29.

From large winery estates, to simple and charming country cottages, Rutherford’s dreamy landscapes and small town charm will win you over easily. Residents and visitors alike enjoy proximity to excellent dining at storied restaurants such as the Ruther-ford Grill and Auberge du Soleil, and the area’s wineries are among Napa Valley’s most celebrated. The historic Inglenook Estate is one of the area’s first wineries, dating back to 1879.
